The Shadows in Thine Eyes, by Edwin Leibfreed

The Shadows in Thine Eyes

Whence came those shadows in thine eyes
That tremble with a mute surprise,
Transforming girlhood womanwise,
My little maid?   Within the shadows of thine eyes
A secret lurks that mystifies,
And manhood, prone to idolize,
Is fair afraid.   The shadows know no compromise;
They rim a light that sanctifies,
And with emotion solemnize
Each glance, sweet maid.   The shadows still are in thine eyes,
Dear girl transformed and womanwise,
And thus does love immortalize
A little maid.
