The Golden Fleece, by Albert Samain

The Golden Fleece

BLACK in the blue night Argus sails, while dozes
Each chieftain sad, dreaming of Grecian hills;
Jason alone, who sleeps but when he wills,
Watches, while in his soul his dream uncloses.   The shade is limpid, and the breeze that blows is
Sweet while the fire-nailed lyre the silence thrills..
Jason with pride immense the horizon fills,
And breathes from far away Colchidian roses.   While he grows drunken with the warm idea,
In the lascivious garden burns Medea,
And in the breeze from Asia her flesh tingles..   The dragon's eye shines as a green pond would,
And Fate, to brew an ancient frenzy, mingles
With the Golden Fleece the sombre reek of blood.
