Vernal Equinox, by Jack Peachum

Vernal Equinox

Peonies put forth new faces.
Underfoot, a carpet of white petals
– the pear tree’ s in bloom again.   But reluctant spring won’ t enter the year
– that shy season hides in the March wind–
meantime, a gust of cold rain crosses the yard.   And winter hangs about the house,
testing the eaves, howling under the windows,
refusing to be evicted.
