In the City, by John Delaney

In the City

Pedestrians hurry
homeless people shelter
on the pavement   street lights, haunted night
street signs talk
and billboards sing   glass windows reflect
flashing crosswalk signs
dirty alleys, broad streets   drunken voices talking
dogs shouting
cats laughing
cell phones singing,
honking cars,
doors slamming,
tires screeching   exhaust fumes choke
old water in rain puddles
bitter cigarettes I sweat   an old man once said to me
Under these paving stones.. The beach
but I dont believe him..
