An Hawaiian Afternoon, by Christine Siebeneck Swayne

An Hawaiian Afternoon

The sun upon the rocks,
And the breakers on the bar;
And a line of tossing shadows
Where the royal palm trees are;   The brilliant, cloud-filled heav'n,
The strong voiced wind roaring by,
And the blazing red hibiscus,
And a lazy, deep "lanai";   A soft, liquid sound of singing,
As the day draws nigh to night,
While the purple darkness deepens--
All these things are my delight.
